April 20, 2007 Run to fetch Clayton's bike
It is 700 miles from doorstep to doorstep, Austin to Ciudad Valles Hotel. Clayton and I are driving my 1996 Chevy Blazer (156k miles) and towing Walter's trailer. We left Austin about 9am and arrived at Cd Valles Hotel at 1am. That's about 16 hours on the road with 1 hour mas o menos at the border. We get lots of comments about the "nice trailer". Border formalities were pretty seamless but it still took me 1hr 10 min to process papers and get right with Mexico. I switched the trailer's license plates and used my trailer registration papers for Walter's trailer, as it is prohibited to import someone else's vehicle into Mexico, permission granted or not. Anyway there was no problem with the license switch and paper feint. The trip is pretty uneventful so far, except that I forgot to bring any Mexican maps and was relying on my pornographic memory until the pressure was too great and I finally broke down and purchased something at a convience store gas station. Anything unusual last night? Well we saw a car towing another car. No, wait. We saw a car towing two other cars last night. That was pretty unusual.
